Procedures during the first visit: (Applicable only to
those considering total body healing only)
On completion of the registration form, patients will
meet either with Dr. Frederick Lee or Dr. Winnie Tiao.
Unless Dr. Lee is out of town or is unavailable, it is
routine for him to meet with patients during the first
visit.
Based on the information furnished by the patients on
their registration forms, questions will be put to the
patient such as state of health, dietary habits and the
use of prescribed medication. Some of the questions may
appear quite personal in nature but patients will
appreciate this is often necessary, and appropriate, to
enable us to get to the root of the problem. If you feel
uncomfortable with any questions, please do no hesitate
to let the practitioner know.
After the consultative session based on the above, the
practitioner (either Dr. Lee or Dr Tiao) will proceed
with an examination using the following diagnostic
methods. Patients give their full or implied consent to
be examined in this manner.
- Tongue diagnosis
- Eye diagnosis (based on iridology and sclerology)
- Pulse diagnosis
- Examining the patient with the use of a stethoscope whereby the patient will be asked to remove their shoes and lie down face up on the treatment bed while we listen carefully to the patient’s heart and lungs. In the case of female patients, it may be necessary to raise the patient’s bra, in the vicinity of the left breast, in order to achieve correct diagnosis for a heart examination with the stethoscope.
- We will also examine the abdominal cavity with gentle percussions and also palpations for signs of discomfort, tenderness or pain. We place great emphasis on abdominal diagnosis. Many health problems are caused by an abdominal disorder of some sort. Common sense will indicate that if there is pain or discomfort during palpation, something is not quite right yet a scan will not always reveal anything adverse.
- Depending on the nature of the complaint, we also examine the patient’s spine for signs of muscle spasm, inflammation, prolapsed disc or misalignments.
Clients will appreciate that this is a very thorough and unique way of examining a patient to reach as far as possible an accurate and correct diagnosis. Note: Patients wanting simple relief are not accorded this examination procedure.
Acupuncture is not in routine use at Beyond
Medicine
Unlike the conventional Chinese acupuncture clinic that
you are accustomed to, acupuncture is not routinely
used. However, when a patient is accustomed to
acupuncture and has responded favourably to it, we will
administer acupuncture upon patient’s request.
Depending on the nature of the complaint, we routinely
administer joint manipulations during the first visit.
Unlike chiropractic, our joint manipulations which we
refer to as “Tui Na ” or meridian massage will in
addition promote the flow of “chi” energy. This therapy
is very effective in the freeing of trapped nerves and
congestion. Following joint manipulations, and in place
of acupuncture, we often use Western type therapies in
the treatment of pain.
